Through The Salt Mines
Day 12 begins. Ourlong arduous journey of 422 km from Bhuj to Somnath was made pleasant by the unexpected sightings around. Crossing the Little Rann Of Kutch, we spotted several salt pans and truck-high heaps of the white mineral along the highway.
Gujarati Aloo Ka Parantha
Hunger pangs struck coerced us to have aloo ka parantha for breakfast. We were definitely in for a spicy surprise. Gujarati parantha..errr…parota is lightly filled with potato and served with chana dal. Like this…
Aapnu Gaadi!
Driving on the Gujarati roads, you are bound to encounter a colourful and flamboyant beast that goes by the name of Chakda. It is basically a Royal Enfield tailing a small carrier. Quite a popular mode of transportation, you can see it carrying both passengers and cargo.
Nuts About Coconut
You will be amazed at how the vegetation changes from Kutch to the Saurashtra region, where Somnath is located. Tall, swaying coconut trees welcome you to this pilgrimage town. I am told that you get nariyal paani for less than 10 bucks. Can’t wait to try it tomorrow!
The Much Needed Rest
Our chic hotel Lords Inn in Somnath is just what we needed after the long drive. An extremely modern and well-kept room welcomed our tired bodies. After a good in-room Continental lunch, slumber came and boy, what a restful sleep we got!
Dinner happens at the Blue Coriander restaurant. Will let you know how we liked it. Ciao!
