Prologue

The stories that most of us grew up listening to are full of fascinating travel tales and experiences. One of the most popular epic journeys being that of Lord Rama, whose 14 year journey started when his father King Dashratha sent him on exile.

For 14 years, Rama, with his wife Sita and brother Lakshman, travelled through forests across the subcontinent. Their journey was replete with interesting twists and turns, as they made their way from Ayodhya to Lanka and back. Through this time, they crossed rivers and forests, met sages and demons, fought and won wars to ensure peace for citizens. Many places that they are believed to have visited can be loosely mapped to places in modern India where one can see strong influences of the

Ramayana in their monuments, landmarks and temples.

We take you through some of these key places of Lord Rama’s journey and their counterparts in today’s times. Here’s a chance to retrace the path of the 14 years in exile.
